The NTFN and its Steercom is delighted to confirm the appointment of Adrie El Mohamadi as the new Project Leader. Adrie has been involved in the development space for more than 15 years, of which close to 10 has been with GTZ. Her professional background is in Management especially in areas of Innovation Systems and Technology Transfer. Her employment history with GTZ South Africa stretches from 2001. In June 2006, she joined the Employment and Skills Development Service Programme (ESDS), as the Technical Coordinator for the Technology Station Programme (TSP).
Adrie has been responsible for coordinating the Rapid Appraisal of Local Innovation Systems (RALIS) within 6 different sectors of the South African Economy and is also coordinating the Career Path Framework for the Foundry industry (which was an outcome of the Foundry RALIS in February 2008).
“I believe that understanding the innovative capacity of a sector does not depend only on the use of certain technologies, management processes or the performance capability of research institutions. More importantly, it also depends on collaboration between role-players of the private sector, the state, educational and research institutions as well as linkages with international innovation networks.” says Adrie.
Adrie is excited about the projects of the NFTN and says that her focus will be on the following:
- To co-ordinate a process that will put the foundry sector as a whole (one integrated sector plan) on the radar of government and other stakeholders
- To explore ways of making the foundry industry more globally competitive
- To assist to improve the communication channels on support, standards and tools available for the industry
- To increase the absorption of new, relevant technologies; and
- To continue and intensify support in up-skilling the industry workforce on all levels.
“Adrie’s track record of successfully coordinating multi-stakeholder projects on both national and international level in various sectors of the South African economy will enable her to contribute to moving the Foundry Industry into a different global competitive field.” Oliver Damm commented.
